L A  C E N E R E N T O L A

After hearing comic baritone and Amore Opera impresario Nathan Hull audition with his own version of Leporello's Catalogue aria, I became inspired to work on some operatic translations, myself, even though my Italian is deplorable. I needed an English translation for Salt Marsh Opera's outreach production of La Cenerentola in 2013, and so, taking Paul Csonka and Ariane Theslof's translation from the Kalmus edition as a starting point, I adapted their translation to fit the substantial cuts for our production. Producer Shawn Jeffery gave me the idea of using dialogue in place of the recits, which also helped the transitions between scenes and even within musical "numbers".
